Lagoon Basin Management Action Plan Annual Meeting
Mark your calendar: December 11 @ 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm at Harbor Branch.
You are invited by Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to attend the Annual Meeting for the Indian River Lagoon Basin Management Action Plan (BMAP). Please click here for details.
The Basin Management Action Plan, adopted in 2013, is a blueprint intended to restore sea-grass coverage and water quality in the Lagoon through coordinated, phased reduction of nutrient pollution emissions.
The BMAP implements nutrient-pollution reductions to achieve a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) that can be discharged into the Lagoon from all sources while achieving water quality goals.
Point-source and non-point-source emitters are put on a nutrient pollution “diet.”, and reductions are credited for varied pollution-reduction projects and initiatives.
Progress towards water-quality goals are reported annually (please refer here to the 2017 Annual Report).
The Plan is subject to mandatory review at least every five (5) years to determine whether sufficient progress has been made, and if not, to assign additional reductions that may be required.
This Annual Meeting is particularly important as that five-year assessment and revisions to pollution-reduction goals are now up for review.
